Pwu Jean Lee is the author of the book of poems “East Wind, West Rain” first published in English in 1997 and in Chinese in 2019. The poems have been translated and published in Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Swiss- German, and Spanish. Proficient in both English and Chinese, she has won various writing competitions in both languages. Since 2002, four lines of her poem “A Female Son” excerpted from this book were etched on the marble wall of the Penn Station in Manhattan, New York City. The exhibition, along with poems by Walt Whitman and eleven other noted American Poets, is for permanent display. Her translations of the Chinese classic poems by Tsai Wen Ji of the 1st Century A.D. were chosen in the Anthology “Women on War” (University of NYC press). She is a lifetime member of the Chinese Writers Association of North America, the Overseas Chinese Women Writers Association, the Chinese Writers Association of New York, and the Academy of American Poets. Pwu Jean Lee was a college professor of Mathematics for 28 years, a winner of Award for Academic Excellence in Teaching in New Jersey. She also performed Dances of Five Continents to benefit charity for the needy, the suffering, and medical research. At present she is writing two books of bilingual poems, entitled “Echoes” and “A Pagoda of Poetry” soon to be published.
