The Omnipotence of Man

I had an epiphany after working for 35 years with middle schoolers. I realized that most of the adult men i’d met in my life were still inhabited by their 6th grade selves–including me. I’m not proud of this. But I realized a lot of people, especially women, may be mistaking their men for adults but suspicious or annoyed by their constant immaturity. They were witnessing obsessions with explosions, fire, big trucks, engines, accidents, scars, farts, seeing skin, injuries, nail guns, tractors, firecrackers…all of them. And, yet, the same dudes were running companies, leading soldiers off to war, coaching kids sports, counseling people who needed help. It makes no sense. “Who are you?!”
The mystery is solved to some degree. This book is an unvarnished look at the 6th grader in nearly every man. No apologies. –Mike Ashland
