Rev. J.W. Carr’s journey, who is my 3rd great-granduncle, begins in Port Royal, Tennessee, a community still feeling the echoes of slavery’s impact. Raised with a strong foundation in education and faith from Mount Zion Baptist Church, Carr faced life’s challenges with resilience and purpose. His inspiring leadership took him to prominent churches such as Beard’s Chapel, Concord Baptist Church, St. John’s Baptist Church, and Second Baptist Church in San Antonio and Indianapolis. His final chapter unfolded at the esteemed First African Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia. Carr’s unwavering commitment to community service, a testament to his selflessness and dedication to civil rights, shone brightly throughout his career. His transformative leadership, grounded in deep faith and unwavering dedication, left an indelible and lasting mark on every congregation he served, and his legacy continues to resonate deeply within our family and beyond.
