Nicholas and the Nisse

He came north following a voice he couldn’t explain.
When Bishop Nicholas of Myra boards a storm-battered merchant ship bound for the Norse coast, he carries no plan and no destination — only a divine compulsion too strong to ignore. What he finds in the fishing village of Nordvik is both more ordinary and more strange than he expected: a widow farming alone, a boy who thinks like water, a smith who doesn’t bend, and creatures older than memory living in the barns and fields, watching from the corners of the world.

The Nisse have kept this land for generations. They owe nothing to the southern god whom Nicholas worships, and they did not ask for a bishop. What’s more, their fearsome leader, Krampus, lurks on the peripheral of village life, demanding worship of his own. When the interloping priest interferes with Krampus’ established order, a confrontation looms that will forever change Nicholas, the villagers, and even the Nisse.
