Ebola: An Evidence-Based Recap

The 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa represented one of the most devastating healthcare emergencies in the modern era. Valiant efforts by the international community and selfless aid workers was of paramount importance in order to control the crisis. However, this was fraught with numerous obstacles, medical and otherwise. Ebola Virus Disease has now become the subject of immense international research. Tens of thousands of individuals were inflicted by this disease and over 11,000 have perished as a direct result. The global medical community has learned a tremendous amount from the 2014 tragedy, but the recent resurgence of Ebola has reminded us that the work is not yet complete and Ebola Virus Disease still poses a serious threat. This book aims to review the nature of the Ebola virus and its history before exploring the events of the recent outbreaks, the clinical manifestations and the promising therapies currently being tested in clinical trials.
