Retired Texas Ranger Wade Justus and his new love, forensic pathologist Dr. Dakota Shannon, enjoy a short vacation along the Texas Gulf Coast. By chance, in Galveston, Wade encounters a parolee he had arrested years earlier, who is a person of interest in a series of clergy killings. The man claims his innocence and urgently asks Wade for help in clearing his name with homicide detectives.
Wade and Dakota are intrigued by the man’s frightening story and truthfulness. Their contact with investigators renews Wade’s professional connection with the lead homicide investigator, Detective Sergeant Gates Sullivan, who also seeks her former mentor’s assistance.
