Not Every Poem Walks Across Stage

Author: Rashid White
ISBN: 978-1-63795-951-0

These are a collection of the most popular works by Rashid White from 2012-2020. Writing is about authenticity and using the right recipe for expressing our lived experiences. The right amount of vulnerability added to my reality is what produced this collection of poems. My writing centers my truth, in a way that offers the reader into my story as if they were watching it happen. From the intentions of every word to the format on the page, my work is made to provoke thought. My work is that of liberation by way of equipping youth and adults with the tools to understand themselves in the context of an oppressive society, as well as teach methods of radical self-love and self-acceptance through reflection. Highlighting the intersectionality of black boys and men, lifestyle, while centering optimism, self-acceptance, perseverance, vulnerability, self-care/self-love, and positive masculinity as opposed to toxic masculinity.
